Cookies
Cookies policy
Screencake sets four cookies. Three exist to sign you in and keep you signed in safely; one remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Interpretation
The words whose initial letters are capitalized have the meanings defined below. These definitions mean the same thing whether they appear in the singular or the plural.
Definitions
For the purposes of this Cookies Policy:
- Company (referred to as "the Company", "We", "Us" or "Our" in this Cookies Policy) refers to Screencake LLC, 1300 South Blvd, STE 33497, Charlotte, NC 28203, USA.
- Cookies means small files placed on your computer, mobile device or any other device by a website, which can hold details about your use of that site.
- Website refers to Screencake, accessible from screencake.com.
- You means the individual accessing or using the Website, or the company or other legal entity on whose behalf that individual is doing so.
Cookies can be "persistent" or "session" cookies. Persistent cookies stay on your device after you go offline; session cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser.
The cookies we use
Three are strictly necessary: they are what makes signing in possible, and the Website cannot work without them. The fourth remembers a setting you chose. None of them are used for advertising, profiling or measuring you.
- session_token — persistent, set by us. This is your sign-in. It identifies your session so you don't have to enter your password on every page, and it expires when the session does.
- _screencake_session — persistent, set by us. Holds the token that protects your requests against cross-site request forgery, so a third-party page cannot act on your account.
- XSRF-TOKEN — persistent, set by us. The app can read this request-protection token: the app sends it back with each request to prove the request came from Screencake and not from somewhere else.
- screencake_theme — persistent (one year), set by your browser when you use the site. Contains one word,
lightordark: the theme you chose, or the one your system preference resolved to. The public pages are built on our server before they reach your browser, and this is how the server knows which theme to draw them in, so the page does not arrive in the wrong one and switch. It is never used for anything else.
The first three are strictly necessary to deliver a service you have asked for, and the fourth only stores a display setting you chose on the site itself, so none of them require consent under the ePrivacy rules. We do not set any cookie that does, so there is no cookie banner and no consent to withdraw.
Other preferences stay on your device
Apart from the theme cookie above, settings like your recently opened scripts are kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. That means they stay on your device and are never sent to us with your requests. Clearing site data for screencake.com removes them — and the theme cookie with them.
What we do not use
No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no analytics cookies, no web beacons or tracking pixels, no session recording, and no third-party cookies from ad networks or social platforms. We do not sell or share information about you for advertising.
Error reports and, if you switch it on, performance timings are sent directly by the app rather than through cookies, and they are stripped of anything identifying first. Our Privacy Policy describes exactly what those contain.
Paddle's billing script
Paddle, our merchant of record for purchases made on our website, runs a small script on the public pages, the dashboard, the account page and the billing pages. It is how Paddle recovers a failed payment or asks why you are cancelling without sending you away from Screencake. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It tells Paddle which page you are on and, if you have bought a plan, the customer ID Paddle assigned you — never your name, your email address or any script text. Anything it shows you is drawn inside a frame served by Paddle, under Paddle's own privacy and cookie policies.
AI answers in the docs
Ask the docs uses our existing request-protection cookies and adds no tracking cookies or third-party browser scripts. Your browser sends the question to Screencake; our server contacts Fireworks only when you ask for an answer. The Privacy Policy describes what is sent and cached.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Because ours are the ones that sign you in, blocking them means you will not be able to sign in to Screencake on the web — the desktop app in Local Mode needs no account and no cookies, and keeps working either way.
To delete cookies or tell your browser to refuse them, see your browser's help pages: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari. For any other browser, visit its official help pages.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time. The date at the top indicates when it was last revised. If we ever introduce a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent before setting it.
