Refunds

Refund policy

Fourteen days to change your mind about a plan charge, no reason needed. There is no free trial, so this is the trial.

The 14-day guarantee

If Screencake isn't for you, email us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it in full. You do not need to give a reason, and we will not ask you to sit through a retention pitch.

Every plan charge is covered, whether it is your first or a renewal: Writers Room at $39 per year and Production at $69 per year. There are no exceptions and nothing is deducted. The 14 days run from the date of the charge, not from when you first opened the app.

Studio is sold by invoice. The same 14 days apply, counted from the date the invoice is paid, unless the invoice states otherwise.

Renewals are covered too

Plans are annual and renew automatically. A renewal is a charge like any other, so the same 14 days apply to it.

We would still rather you cancelled early than paid for a year you didn't want. Cancelling is self-serve, takes a moment, and never costs you the time you have already paid for. If a renewal caught you off guard, write to us. We are a small company and we read every message.

Cloud AI credits

Credit packs are a one-off purchase, not a plan, and they work a little differently: within 14 days we refund the credits you have not spent, at the price you paid for them. Spent credits are not refunded — each one has already bought the request it paid for, and we paid the AI provider for that request when you made it.

So an untouched pack comes back in full. A pack you have used half of comes back by half. A failed request costs you nothing in the first place: those credits are returned to your balance automatically, no refund needed.

Credits included with Studio come with the plan rather than as a pack: a request spends those first, so a pack you bought stays refundable for as long as possible, and a pack refund never takes plan credits.

Cancelling is not the same as a refund

Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not return the current one, and it does not cut your access short: you keep everything until the end of the term you have already paid for, and then the account moves to the free tier. If you want the current charge back and it happened within the last 14 days, ask for a refund instead.

To cancel, open Billing in your account settings and choose Manage payment. That opens the customer portal run by Paddle, our payment provider, where cancellation and plan changes are scheduled for the end of the current period.

A subscription bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is cancelled with Apple instead, in Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ Subscriptions.

There is no refund button in the app. Refunds are handled by a person — see the next section.

How to ask for a refund

Email support@screencake.com from the address on the account, or tell us which address it is. Include the date of the charge if you have it. That is the whole process.

Purchases made on our website are processed by Paddle.com as our merchant of record, which means your order is with Paddle and it issues the refund on our instruction. The money goes back to the original payment method, along with any sales tax or VAT that was added at checkout. How soon it appears on your statement is up to your bank or card issuer, not to us.

Anything bought inside the iPhone or iPad app was sold by Apple, so the refund is Apple's to give and ours to support: ask through Apple's "Report a Problem" page or your purchase history. Write to us anyway if something went wrong — we will tell Apple the charge is one we would have refunded.

What happens to your work

Nothing is deleted. After a refund your account returns to the free tier, and your scripts stay readable. Export is never gated behind a plan — a writer's work is never held hostage, and you can take a PDF, Final Draft or Fountain file of everything at any time.

Scripts in your private workspace stay editable. Changes are saved on your device, or in your browser on the web, and sync to the cloud again when you pick a plan. Your other own cloud scripts become read-only, and the editor says so when you open one. In the desktop app, "Move to this Mac" (or "Move to this PC") turns such a script into a local one, which needs no account and no plan. An end-to-end encrypted script is the exception — turn encryption off before your plan lapses, because decrypting needs the live document.

Starting something new keeps working too. In the desktop app, a new script is saved on your machine and appears in your Library with your other scripts. When you pick a plan again, those scripts upload to the cloud automatically. In a browser there is nowhere local to put it, so new scripts there wait until you do.

What else stops: new cloud productions and scripts of your own, real-time collaboration, share links, and version history. Production plan features — revisions, locked pages, script breakdown, scheduling and production documents — stop as well. You can still sign in, sync, and collaborate fully inside productions that someone else pays for.

The desktop app is unaffected. Local Mode is free forever, needs no account, and keeps your scripts on your own machine.

If your rights are broader than this policy

Nothing here limits any refund or cancellation right you have under consumer law. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days, and that right applies whatever this page says.

If we cancel your subscription for our own convenience, rather than because you breached the Terms of Service, we refund the unused remainder of the term.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the version in force when you were charged is the one that governs that charge.
