Terms of service
By downloading the app or creating an account, you agree to what follows. Please read it before using the Service.

Interpretation
The words whose initial letters are capitalized have the meanings defined below. These definitions mean the same thing whether they appear in the singular or the plural.
Definitions
For the purposes of these Terms:
- Account means a unique account created for you to access the Service or parts of it.
- Affiliate means an entity that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with a party, where "control" means ownership of 50% or more of the shares, equity interest or other securities entitled to vote for the election of directors or other managing authority.
- Application means the software program provided by the Company and downloaded by you on any electronic device, named Screencake.
- Company (referred to as "the Company", "We", "Us" or "Our" in these Terms) refers to Screencake LLC, 1300 South Blvd, STE 33497, Charlotte, NC 28203, USA.
- Content refers to text, images or other information that can be written, uploaded, linked to or otherwise made available by you, regardless of its form. Your screenplays are Content.
- Country/State refers to North Carolina, United States.
- Device means any device that can access the Service, such as a computer, a phone or a tablet.
- Feedback means feedback, innovations or suggestions you send us about the attributes, performance or features of the Service.
- Local Mode means using the Application on your own device without an account, where your scripts are stored only on that device.
- Service refers to the Application, the Website, or both.
- Subscription refers to access to the Service offered on a subscription basis by the Company to you.
- Terms means these Terms of Service, including any documents expressly incorporated by reference, which govern your access to and use of the Service and form the entire agreement between you and the Company regarding the Service.
- Website refers to Screencake, accessible from screencake.com.
- You means the individual accessing or using the Service, or the company or other legal entity on whose behalf that individual is doing so.
Acknowledgment
These are the Terms governing use of the Service and the agreement between you and the Company. They set out the rights and obligations of everyone who uses it.
Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. They apply to all visitors, users and others who access or use the Service. By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by them. If you disagree with any part, you may not use the Service.
You represent that you are over the age of 18. The Company does not permit those under 18 to use the Service.
Your use of the Service is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use and disclose personal information. Please read it before using the Service.
You own your work
Every script, note and character you write in Screencake belongs to you. We claim no ownership, no license to publish, and no right to use your work to train anything.
You are responsible for your Content, including its legality, reliability and appropriateness. You represent and warrant that the Content is yours or that you have the right to use it, and that posting it through the Service does not violate the privacy rights, publicity rights, copyrights, contract rights or any other rights of any person.
The permission we need to run the Service
To operate Screencake we need a narrow, practical license from you: permission to store, copy, transmit, back up and display your Content, solely so we can deliver it back to your own devices and to the collaborators you invite. It lasts only as long as we hold the Content, and it exists only to run the Service.
That license does not let us publish your work, sell it, license it onward, show it to anyone you have not invited, or use it to train any model. If you delete your Content or your Account, the license ends with it. If you turn cloud AI on, the excerpt you send is processed by the provider named in the Privacy Policy, for that request only.
The free desktop app
The desktop app, on macOS, Windows and Linux, is free to download and use in Local Mode, for personal or commercial writing, with no account required. It is provided as-is and we may change or discontinue features in future versions.
The beta, and what it promised
Screencake's online features were an invite-only beta until 19 August 2026. Accounts created before that date keep the Production plan free for as long as they exist, which is what the beta promised, and that promise stands whatever else changes on this page.
Signup is now open to everyone. Accounts created from 19 August 2026 start on the free plan and can move to a paid plan whenever they choose. We may still need to reset or migrate data with notice while the online features settle. Export is always available.
Plans and collaborators
There are three paid plans, all annual. Writers Room costs $39 per year and includes browser writing, cross-device sync, backup, real-time collaboration, comments and version history. Production costs $69 per year, is built for productions under $100,000, and adds revisions, locked pages, script breakdown, scheduling and production documents. Studio is sold by invoice at the annual price in your agreement with us, is built for productions over $100,000, and adds unlimited collaborators, included cloud AI credits, a workspace audit log with export, workspace security policies, a workspace archive, single sign-on, an API with webhooks, budget actuals and scenarios, and support answered within one business day. A Studio workspace is activated when its invoice is paid.
Only the owner of a production pays. Invited collaborators take part with a free account at no additional charge, up to 10 on Writers Room and 25 on Production; Studio has no cap. Writing in the desktop app stays free for everyone.
On Studio we answer support messages within one business day (Monday to Friday). That is a response target for support, not a promise about the availability of the Service — the Availability section applies unchanged.
Subscription period
Some parts of the Service are available only with a paid Subscription. Subscriptions are annual: you are billed in advance for a year, and at the end of each period your Subscription renews automatically under the same conditions unless you or the Company cancels it.
Billing and payment
Purchases made on our website are processed by Paddle.com as our merchant of record: your order is with Paddle, which handles payment, calculates and remits sales tax or VAT, and issues refunds on our instruction. Paddle's checkout terms apply to the purchase itself.
Subscriptions and credits bought inside the iPhone or iPad app are sold by Apple: Apple takes the payment, collects any tax, and handles refunds under its own terms. Manage or cancel an App Store subscription in Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ Subscriptions.
Prices on our website are exclusive of tax: sales tax or VAT is added at checkout where local rules require it. Prices shown in the iPhone and iPad app are Apple's, in your own currency, with any tax included.
You must provide accurate and complete billing information and a valid payment method. Should automatic billing fail, Paddle will retry the charge and contact you; if payment cannot be collected, the Subscription ends at the close of the retry window. An App Store subscription follows Apple's own retry and grace periods.
Fee changes
The Company may modify Subscription fees at its discretion. Any change takes effect at the end of the then-current Subscription period, and we will give you reasonable prior notice so you can cancel before it applies. Continuing to use the Service after a fee change takes effect is your agreement to the new amount.
Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from your billing settings, which opens the Paddle customer portal, or by contacting us. Cancellation is scheduled for the end of the current paid term: you keep online access until then. Afterward your scripts stay readable and exportable, and become read-only in the editor; in the desktop app you can move one to your machine and keep writing there without an account.
A subscription bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is cancelled with Apple instead, in Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ Subscriptions. Deleting your Screencake account does not cancel it.
Refunds
Any charge for a paid plan is refundable in full within 14 days, whether it is a first purchase or a renewal, with no reason required and nothing deducted. The full terms, including what happens to your work afterward, are in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
A cloud AI credit pack is a one-off purchase rather than a plan. Within 14 days of the charge we refund the credits you have not spent, at the price paid; credits already spent are not refundable, because each has been used for the request it paid for.
Anything bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is refunded by Apple under its own terms, not by us — ask for it through Apple's "Report a Problem" page or your purchase history.
If we terminate your Subscription for convenience, and not because you breached these Terms, we will refund any prepaid fees covering the remainder of the term after the effective date of termination.
Your account
When you create an Account you must provide information that is accurate, complete and current. Failure to do so is a breach of these Terms and may result in termination of your Account.
You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for any activity under it. Do not disclose it to anyone, and notify us immediately if you become aware of any breach of security or unauthorized use of your Account.
You may not use as a name the name of another person or entity, a name or trademark subject to the rights of another person without authorization, or a name that is offensive, vulgar or obscene.
Acceptable use
Don't use Screencake to store or distribute unlawful material, infringe someone else's rights, attack or overload the service, or resell access to it. Accounts used this way may be suspended.
More specifically, you may not transmit Content that is unlawful or promotes unlawful activity; that is defamatory, discriminatory or mean-spirited, including commentary targeting religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, or national or ethnic origin; that is spam, unsolicited advertising, chain letters, or any form of lottery or gambling; that contains viruses, worms, malware or anything designed to disrupt or damage software, hardware or data, or to obtain unauthorized access to it; that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity or other proprietary right; that impersonates any person or entity, including the Company; or that violates the privacy of any third person.
A screenplay may depict anything a story needs to depict. This section is about conduct and distribution, not about what your characters say or do.
The Company may, but is not obliged to, determine at its discretion whether Content complies with these Terms and refuse or remove it, and may limit or revoke use of the Service where such Content is posted.
Content backups
We back up synced Content regularly, but we cannot guarantee that no loss or corruption will ever occur. A backup point may be invalid because the Content was already corrupt before it was captured, or because it changed while the backup ran.
We will provide support and try to troubleshoot any backup problem we know about or you report, but you acknowledge that we have no liability for the integrity of Content or for a failure to restore it. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. Export is always available and is never gated behind a plan.
Copyright policy
We respect the intellectual property rights of others, and it is our policy to respond to any claim that Content on the Service infringes a copyright or other intellectual property right.
If you are a copyright owner, or authorized to act on behalf of one, and you believe a copyrighted work has been copied in a way that constitutes infringement through the Service, send a written notice to our copyright agent at support@screencake.com with a detailed description of the alleged infringement.
You may be held accountable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees, for misrepresenting that Content infringes your copyright.
DMCA notice and procedure
You may submit a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by providing our copyright agent with the following in writing (see 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3) for further detail):
- An electronic or physical signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright's interest.
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed, including the URL of the location where it exists, or a copy of the work.
- Identification of the URL or other specific location on the Service where the material you claim is infringing is located.
- Your address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Send it to support@screencake.com. On receipt we will take whatever action we deem appropriate, which may include removing the challenged Content from the Service.
Our intellectual property
The Service and its original content — excluding Content provided by you or other users — together with its features and functionality, are and will remain the exclusive property of the Company and its licensors. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws of both the Country/State and foreign countries. Our trademarks and trade dress may not be used in connection with any product or service without our prior written consent.
Your feedback to us
You assign all rights, title and interest in any Feedback you provide. If for any reason that assignment is ineffective, you grant the Company a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, disclose, sub-license, distribute, modify and exploit that Feedback without restriction.
Links to other websites
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not own or control. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, their content, privacy policies or practices, and we are not liable for any damage or loss caused by or in connection with the use of or reliance on them. We strongly advise you to read the terms and privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
Availability
We work to keep the service running, but we don't promise uninterrupted availability. Because the desktop app is local-first, an outage should never stop you from writing.
Termination
We may terminate or suspend your Account immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms. On termination your right to use the Service ceases immediately. If you wish to close your Account, you may simply stop using the Service, or delete it from your account settings. Deleting your Account cancels any active subscription at the same time; refunds, if any, follow the Refund Policy.
No termination relieves you of the obligation to pay fees owed for the period before the effective date of termination.
Limitation of liability
Notwithstanding any damages you might incur, the entire liability of the Company and any of its suppliers under any provision of these Terms, and your exclusive remedy, is limited to the amount you actually paid through the Service, or 100 USD if you have not purchased anything.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will the Company or its suppliers be liable for any special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages whatsoever — including damages for loss of profits, loss of data or other information, business interruption, personal injury, or loss of privacy arising out of or in any way related to the use of or inability to use the Service, third-party software or third-party hardware used with the Service — even if the Company or any supplier has been advised of the possibility of such damages, and even if the remedy fails of its essential purpose.
Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so some of the above may not apply to you. In those states each party's liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
"As is" and "as available" disclaimer
The Service is provided to you "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", with all faults and defects and without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted under applicable law, the Company, on its own behalf and on behalf of its Affiliates and their respective licensors and service providers, expressly disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise, including all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and warranties arising out of course of dealing, course of performance, usage or trade practice.
Without limiting the foregoing, we make no representation or warranty of any kind, express or implied: as to the operation or availability of the Service or the information, content and materials included in it; that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; as to the accuracy, reliability or currency of any information provided through the Service; or that the Service, its servers, the content, or emails sent from or on behalf of the Company are free of viruses or other harmful components.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on a consumer's statutory rights, so some or all of the above may not apply to you. In that case these exclusions and limitations apply to the greatest extent enforceable under applicable law.
Governing law
The laws of the Country/State, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, govern these Terms and your use of the Service. Your use of the Application may also be subject to other local, state, national or international laws.
Disputes resolution
If you have any concern or dispute about the Service, you agree to first try to resolve it informally by contacting the Company.
For European Union (EU) users
If you are a European Union consumer, you benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident, and nothing in these Terms affects those rights.
United States legal compliance
You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated by the United States government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
If you are a U.S. federal government end user, the Service is a "Commercial Item" as that term is defined at 48 C.F.R. §2.101.
Severability and waiver
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable or invalid, it will be changed and interpreted to accomplish its objectives to the greatest extent possible under applicable law, and the remaining provisions continue in full force.
Except as provided here, a failure to exercise a right or to require performance of an obligation under these Terms does not affect a party's ability to do so later, and a waiver of a breach is not a waiver of any subsequent breach.
Translation
These Terms may have been translated if we have made them available to you in another language. You agree that the original English text prevails in the case of a dispute.
Changes to these terms
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material we will make reasonable efforts to give at least 30 days' notice before the new terms take effect; what counts as material is determined at our discretion.
By continuing to use the Service after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms. If you do not agree to them, in whole or in part, please stop using the Service.
